About oneTRUEzone Foundation

What is OTZ Foundation?

Founded in 2015, OTZ Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supplements existing college and career services by guiding young people through a unique self-discovery and networking process that creates a roadmap for career exploration and includes potentially life-changing personalized mentorship and coaching.

Who does OTZ Foundation serve?

College students from varying socio-economic backgrounds who have the motivation and dedication to be successful but have varying challenges:

  • Youth who feel pressure to be successful but lack the mentorship needed to find their best path early enough in life to make college count so that money and time are not wasted;
  • Youth who face familial and/or financial issues that could hinder success. These students may be the first in their family to go to college, be the sole bread winner of the family or have to take care of a sick or elderly family member.
  • Commuters who work full-time and attend school full-time need more coaching support, connection, student peer relationships and better time management due to the demands of both full-time work and a course load. These students are particularly vulnerable and have low graduation rates.

Why was OTZ founded?

To address the challenges young people are facing today in finding their best career path that is satisfying and fulfilling.  So many pursue a career for the wrong reasons and end up wasting time and money, often not completing school and/or selecting a job that is not right for them.

Statistics show:

  • 70% of U.S. employees are either not engaged or actively disengaged at work (Gallup Poll, 2014);
  • 30% of college and university students drop out after their first year (College Atlas, 2014);
  • 66% of hiring managers say millennials are not prepared for the workforce and “lack adequate work ethic.” (The
Fiscal Times, 2016)
  • 70% of Americans will study at a 4-year college, but less than two-thirds will graduate (College Atlas, 2014);
  • Only 15% of low-income students who attend a community college graduate (College Boards, Trends in Community Colleges, 2016)

What we do

We work to support the challenges career services face (i.e. overbooked counselors, staff shortage, students who wait too long, choose to work independently, commuter populations). We facilitate hands-on and peer-to-peer mentorship in a setting where students develop real relationships and connect to each other, their coaches and their university.

Programming includes our, two-part OTZ Career Empowerment Academy:
(a) Self Discovery Program: A 10-session, video-based online program that guides students through a unique
process of self-discovery to uncover their natural, unique gifts.
(b) GPS Power Network Program: This video-based program gives students the skills and guidance to build a lifelong career network of connections and mentors.
Customized Events include: lively small group workshops for individual groups or classes;  full day self-discovery and career exploration events; and keynote addresses tailored to needs of school, college or organization.

How do we do it?

We partner with universities, community based organizations and those with similar missions serving similar populations by augmenting existing college and career services.   Our programming is made possible through partnerships and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.
